Local4′s Alissa Harrington ready for Mrs. America pageant
LAS VEGAS (KSNB) - Ever since being named Mrs. Nebraska in late April, Local4′s Alissa Harrington has been working to get ready for the Mrs. America pageant happening on Saturday.
For the past week, she’s been in Las Vegas, where she’s getting the chance to meet other contestants and experience not only the glamor but why this opportunity is so important for these woman competing.
“Being in Las Vegas for the Mrs. America pageant has been an absolute whirlwind and an experience of a lifetime,” Harrington said. “I have been meeting so many amazing women and have created friendships that I know will last a lifetime thanks to this organization.”
Her goal has been to create a love for reading across the state, and teach children that it’s possible to move past their challenges to succeed.
She founded the “Readers Today Leaders Tomorrow” project. She shared her journey with children of struggling with dyslexia to becoming a news anchor and community leader.
“I am so excited and ready to show the judges, and the world that Mrs. Nebraska is the next Mrs. America,” she said.
The Mrs. America Pageant is the longest-running competition to recognize married women’s contributions to modern family life.
