Hot and dry weather continues through the weekend, but cooler temperatures will soon return
September 2, 2023 - Overnight forecast
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - If there is one positive we can find with these hot weather it’s the low humidity that has accompanied it. The feel-like temperatures have been about what the actual air temperatures have been. Still hot outside, but it’s been a dry heat and not the sticky muggy air we felt with the last wave of hot weather. The hot and dry weather will continue through Labor Day. We can see the light at the end of the heat tunnel though as a cold front will push through sometime Tuesday. This will knock temperatures back into the 80s Tuesday as long as the front moves through earlier rather than later in the day.
A rather mild night tonight under clear skies and a nice breeze. Lows tonight will venture down into the low to mid 60s across the area. Winds will be south southwest between 10 and 20 mph. Another sunny, hot and dry day tomorrow. Winds will offer little help as they will be south southwesterly meaning a warm and dry wind. At least it will be a dry heat. Highs tomorrow once again climbing into the upper 90s to low 100s.
Labor Day should be the last of the hot and dry weather for this week. It will be a sunny day for your outdoor activities. It will be on the breezy side though. Winds will be out of the south southeast between 15 and 20 with gusts to around 30 mph. High temperatures Monday afternoon should be slightly cooler but still a bit hot. Expect highs to reach the mid to upper 90s. As a cold front begins to move into the western part of the state late Monday, there is a slight chance of showers or a thunderstorm in northwest parts of the viewing area. The best chance though will be in the panhandle. The cold front should move through our area early Tuesday. Once it pushes through, afternoon temperatures should not climb higher than the upper 80s. If the front slows down, temperatures may be warmer. Highs each day after Tuesday will remain in the 80s through next weekend. Looking for some moisture? There will be a few weak waves that begin moving through the area later in the week. These will only offer up slight shower and thunderstorm chances starting Wednesday night. Some of the models are hinting at possibly more significant amounts of rainfall next weekend. Could definitely use the rain since August was a bit drier than usual for most.
