Good Samaritan Village holds another successful ‘SamFest’
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - The Good Samaritan Society held its annual ‘SamFest’ at Good Samaritan Village in Hastings on Thursday.
The event was circus-themed and began with a parade, which featured several decorated golf carts, floats and people dressed in a variety of costumes.
Samfest also featured a variety of activities for people of all ages, food trucks and the Golden Age Circus, which Activities Coordinator Ashley Fitzgerald says had a few vintage twists that would resonate with their residents.
“When I was doing the circus theme, I was doing some research and looking back to what the circuses were like back when they were taking part in that kind of stuff,” Fitzgerald said.
The event attracted people of all ages to Good Samaritan Village, which Fitzgerald said allows the residents to connect with the rest of the community and make new friendships. She also said planning for an event of this size took a lot of work and time in order for it all to come together.
“The work started months ago, probably January or February and you make about 10-20 phone calls a day, you rally the troops every day, just getting them excited, so it’s a ton of work, but it’s a lot of fun,” Fitzgerald said.
