GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - The Nebraska State Fair volunteer program blew past the projected 14,000 hour mark in 2023, logging 14,325 hours of time from volunteer efforts.

The 741 individual volunteers took part in numerous positions on the grounds including landscaping, information kiosk, package handling and delivery, tram driving and hosting, and event assistance.

State Fair Volunteer Coordinator Haley Roush said, “It is important to the smooth operation of the fair that we have lots of help. Our volunteers went overboard in 2023 and put all kinds of hours in to make sure fair guests had an enjoyable time.”

Nebraska State Fair Volunteer Program draws participation from both individuals and local companies. The annual Battle of the Businesses trophies will be presented next week to the businesses whose employees had the highest level of volunteerism. State Fair Executive Director Jaime Parr is grateful for the volunteers.

“It is absolutely no stretch to say we can’t do the fair without the work of these passionate volunteers,” Parr said. “We welcome volunteers at the Nebraska State Fair. The enthusiasm they bring to the work and the assistance they provide is invaluable and second to none..”

With the new 2024 theme of “All Roads Lead to Fun”, the 2024 Nebraska State Fair will be August 23 though September 2 at Fonner Park in Grand Island.
