Unseasonably warm and windy this weekend
September 29, 2023 - Evening forecast
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Seven days into the fall season and it still feels like summer as unseasonably warm temperatures led to record highs this afternoon in some central and eastern spots. It wasn’t just daytime highs that were in jeopardy of being broken but also morning warm lows as some of us remain south of a stalled front that is currently draped across the state. As for this evening and overnight, mostly clear skies with a light southerly breeze. There is a chance for an isolated strong to severe storm in northeast Nebraska. Otherwise, dry for most of the state. Lows tonight will range from the low 50s west to low 70s east.
On Saturday, the stalled out front in our northwest will actually lift farther northwest as a warm front, which will mean more wind and heat for the entire area. Any early thundershowers over Northeast Nebraska will clear out around mid-morning and give way to mostly sunny skies. South winds will again be strong at 15 to 25 mph with gusts of 30 to 40 mph. It’ll be quite hot again with highs from the mid 80s northwest to the mid 90s southeast. It’ll be fairly quiet and breezy Saturday night. Lows Sunday morning will be in the 60s and lower 70s. Sunday will feature more strong south winds with highs in the upper 80s and lower 90s. Monday will still be windy in warm with highs in the mid to upper 80s and lower 90s. There will be a small chance of showers and thunderstorms late in the day and into Monday night as a cold front approaches.
As the cold front traverses across the area Tuesday and Tuesday night, a good chance of showers and thunderstorms returns to the area. A fairly widespread, decent rainfall is expected. Highs could be anywhere from the upper 60s northwest to the lower 80s southeast. The system will clear on our Wednesday and Thursday and milder temperatures will settle in. Highs in the 60s and 70s are expected. Friday through the weekend will be a little cooler yet. Most will have highs in the 60s with some even in the 50s. The coolest day is currently set for Saturday. Lows during that time could be a blend of 30s and 40s.
