GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - Grand Island-area jockey Zachery Zane Ziegler was injured and transported to a emergency center after a racing accident in Columbus over the weekend.

According to friends and family’s social media, the jockey was at the Columbus Ag Race track when his horse clipped the one in front during the race. This caused his horse to rollover and fall on top of him.

Ziegler was taken to a nearby trauma center where doctors performed emergency surgery to address a brain bleed, facial fractures and potential spine injuries.

The latest update stated that he is in recovery and responsive.

They have started a GoFundMe for his medical bills.
