KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) - Avery Franzen, a senior at Kearney High School, has been chosen as one of the esteemed recipients of the 2023-2024 Believers & Achievers accolade. The prominent statewide program called Believers & Achievers was created to recognize and honor Nebraska’s rising leaders.

Franzen is one of the select 48 Nebraska high school seniors who were chosen as Believers & Achievers out of the whole field of qualified applicants. Eight students from this elite group will also be given $500 scholarships from Currency to help them pursue their studies.

The honorees will be acknowledged during NSAA State Championships throughout the 2023–2024 academic year and will also be featured prominently on a poster distributed to all NSAA member schools.

The Believers & Achievers program was carefully designed to recognize and reward high school students in Nebraska who excel in their studies and actively participate in NSAA-approved activities.

Evaluation of candidates encompasses a comprehensive set of criteria, including but not limited to:

  • Exceptional scholastic performance, marked by a minimum GPA of 3.50 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Receipt of academic honors and awards.
  • Active engagement in NSAA-sanctioned activities.
  • Notable participation in school clubs and organizations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to community initiatives.
  • A thoughtfully crafted Citizenship Essay.

Ryan Hogue, Activities Director and Assistant Principal at Kearney High School, expressed his profound pride in Franzen’s achievement, stating, “Avery serves as an inspiring example of the commitment and dedication to her school, activities, and the Kearney community that will only show the rest of our student body how they too can experience the success that Miss Franzen has experienced in and outside the classroom.”

Franzen is actively involved in Dafy, K-Club, Kearney Tackles Cancer, FCA, Volleyball, Basketball, and Track & Field.
