HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Residents in Hastings had the opportunity to work off a few pounds before the Thanksgiving holiday in the form of the Turkey Trot event.

The marathon hosted by the YMCA involved runners going along a three mile path. Saturday’s event were for individuals with the winner receiving a free turkey. Josh Niemeyer had been motivated by his friends and set his own personal goal.

“My friends got money on me so hopefully it is somewhere between 22 and 23 minutes, but we will see how it goes,” Niemeyer said.

Niemeyer has worked at the YMCA for three years and hasn’t been apart of an event like this until this year.

“I have never done it, I have never trained for it but I am excited to try it and hopefully do good,” Niemeyer said.

Each runner had to pay a registration fee and checked in at 7:30 a.m.

The categories to name winners included top male and female runners ages 18 and up as well as top male and female runners 19 and up.
