LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - The Lincoln Police Department released the name of the suspect in a homicide that happened near the State Capitol just before noon on Sunday.

According to LPD, 41-year-old Timothy Washington was arrested Sunday on suspicion of first-degree murder and use of a weapon to commit a felony. He was taken into custody at 1:10 p.m. after a pursuit in a stolen vehicle that ended in the area of North 9th & Benton streets.

Officers responded to the area of 13th and E streets at 11:48 a.m. on the report of gunshots.

During a preliminary investigation, officers determined the victim and another person had been walking on 13th Street between E and F streets when an unknown man in a dark-colored vehicle drove up beside them. He’s then accused of shooting the victim once in the chest before leaving the scene.

About an hour later, police said Washington stabbed a 40-year-old man in the neck and chest near 28th and Y streets. Police said the victim was transported to the hospital, where he remains in stable condition.
