Woman filed protection order hours before fatal shooting in east Lincoln
LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - A woman filed a protection order hours before she was killed in an east Lincoln shooting on Wednesday.
Lincoln Police shared more information in an apparent murder-suicide that ended with one vehicle spun out, a woman suffering multiple gunshot wounds and a man found dead at the scene.
Officers were called out to the area of 84th and Sandalwood around 12:30 p.m. on report of a domestic disturbance. Two young women witnessed 21-year-old Michelle Gonzalez get hit by a black vehicle.
The good samaritans stepped in to help and took Gonzalez into their vehicle before driving off. However, the driver who’d hit Gonzalez, 28-year-old Ibrahim Alhamadani, followed them for a few blocks before crashing into their car, according to police.
The vehicle carrying Gonzalez spun out into a yard, and Alhamadani got out of his vehicle. He walked up to the crashed car and fired multiple shots at Gonzalez, striking her in the head, chest and abdomen, police said. Neither of the good samaritans were injured.
First responders then found Alhamadani dead at the scene with what could be surmised to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Chief Michon Morrow. Gonzalez was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, and she died later Wednesday.
Hours before the incident, Lincoln Police said Gonzalez filed a protection order against Alhamadani, and the protection order had been approved. Gonzalez wrote that Alhamadani had assaulted her earlier in the morning of Wednesday, beating her with a pistol while intoxicated.
Police said the protection order had yet to be served to Alhamadani, and it’s unclear how the two came into contact in the moments leading up to the shooting.
“The protection order was filed, and it was granted,” Chief Morrow said Friday. “There is a gap in time that is very small — that is probably around two hours or less of when we know she is OK and there is a safety plan that had been created — to when we have the incident occurring on 84th.”
The protection order also lists two other recent incidents of domestic violence.
Morrow said the investigation into the incident would continue, even though there is no perpetrator left to charge with the crime. She said the department remains committed to understanding what led up to the shooting for the sake of the victim’s family.

At the time of Gonzalez’s killing, Alhamadani was out on parole for a previous domestic violence case.
