Lincoln Police identify shooter and victim in deadly domestic violence incident
13-year-old called 911 saying he and his mom had just been shot
LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Lincoln Police released the identities of the shooter and victim in a deadly domestic violence incident from Wednesday.
Lincoln Police said 44-year-old Pah To shot and killed his live-in girlfriend 40-year-old Bu Gay and also shot and injured her 13-year-old son.
The incident happened just after midnight Wednesday at an apartment near 21st and Randolph streets in southwest Lincoln. Officers responded around 12:10 a.m. after receiving a 911 call from the 13-year-old boy who said he and his mom had just been shot.
When officers arrived, they found the 44-year-old man dead in a bedroom from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The woman had a gunshot wound and was taken to the hospital where she died.
The 13-year-old was rushed to the hospital, where he underwent surgery. He is expected to survive his gunshot wound.
Two other children, a 15-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy, were also in the home, but were not physically injured. They were taken to the BraveBe Child Advocacy Center to be interviewed.
Police said multiple shell casings and a gun were recovered from the apartment.
The couple lived together with the three children. The shooter is the father of the 8-year-old boy in the home, police said. All three children attend Lincoln Public Schools.
Court records show no prior reports of domestic violence between the couple, and Pah To has no criminal history in Nebraska.
Lincoln Police wanted to remind people of the domestic violence resources available in the community including LPD’s Victim Assistance Unit, Voices of Hope and Friendship Home. The National Domestic Violence Hotline is 800-799-7233.
