THE WEATHERIZATION PROGRAM: The WAP makes it possible for low-income families to permanently reduce their energy bills. Contractors or crews install energy efficiency measures in homes occupied by qualifying low-income families free of charge. These are not expensive upgrades – the average cost is $8,209 per home. By reducing the energy bills of low-income families instead of offering aid, WAP reduces dependency & frees up funds for spending on more pressing family issues.
The Weatherization Program at Mid:
- Serves 27 counties in south central Nebraska
- Administers contracts from the Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy (NDEE), the Department of Energy (DOE), and the Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).
