CHAPMAN, Neb. (KSNB) - Firefighters worked to control a house fire in Merrick County early Monday morning.

The house is located on the corner of 7th and Kady in Chapman.

The Merrick County Sheriff's Office said the call went out just before 6 a.m. They said two occupants inside the home noticed the fire and called for help.

The sheriff's office said when crews arrived the house was fully engulfed in flames.

Anastasia Champ was on scene and said when she arrived at 7 a.m., smoke and flames were still visible. Almost one hour later, she said crews are still working on the fire.

MCSO said the house is a total loss, but there were no injuries reported.

The State Fire Marshal's office and the Chapman Fire Chief are investigating what caused the fire.

The area around the home will likely be blocked off for another hour. If you don't need to be in the area, stay clear of it.

Chapman, Central City and Grand Island Rural all responded.
