HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Some area schools are set to start up on Thursday which means more foot and vehicle traffic. It also means it's time for drivers to keep in mind school zone safety and remember to be extra cautious.
Hastings Police Department reminds drivers to stop early and often, as well as following the school zone speed limit signs as fines can double and children may be present. For pedestrians, it's important to look out for distracted drivers and remain inside the crosswalks.
Back to school also means school buses will be returning to the roads. Drivers must remember to stop when they see the "stop" sign off the side of the bus or flashing lights.
Parking lots, roads and sidewalks are bound to see much heavier traffic with the school year returning. Keep in mind general safety and to eliminate all distractions.
