The first is a chance to visit with Hastings author Jane Kleeb. Kleeb, who serves as the chairman of the Nebraska Democratic Party, will discuss her experiences writing her book Harvest the Vote. The session will be Thursday, January 29 at 5:30 p.m.

In February, it will be a regularly popular event for the library, with a twist. They will hold a Romance Book Sale on February 8 and 9 during regular library hours. This special book sale will involve romance novels and other similar books only.

Events like this fit into the library's mission of serving the community beyond just lending books.

"This is expanding your horizons. This is finding out what's out there in the world", said library director Amy Hafer.

"What do you want to be, what do you want to learn from. This is just taking our mission of expanding and enhancing the quality of life in the community."

Hafer did add that they are still planning to hold their larger book sale this fall.
