Boy injured in truck-bike accident, driver arrested

A six-year old Grand Island boy was in good condition Thursday morning at CHI Health St. Francis after he was hit by a pick-up while riding his bike.
The accident happened Wednesday evening around 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of West 18th Street and Broadwell Avenue in Grand Island.
The boy, accompanied by two adults, was attempting to cross Broadwell Avenue when he was struck by the truck. He had head injuries and other cuts and bruises and was transported to the hospital after receiving initial treatment at the scene. He was not wearing a helmet.
The driver of the truck, Jonathan Rodriguez, was learned to have smoked marijuana earlier in the day. He also had a suspended driver's license and was wanted on a Hall County warrant.
Rodriguez was arrested for suspicion of Driving Under the Influence with Great Bodily Injury, Possession of Marijuana. Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Driving Under Suspension and for the warrant.
