Celebrating 115 years of the Hastings Library
Hastings Public Library officials are inviting everyone to join them for a special presentation and other events as they celebrate their 115th anniversary in Hastings.
Story teller Pippa White will be on hand Friday, December 6 to give a presentation on The Orphan Trains. The famed trains were involved in transporting up to 500-thousand orphan children to homes in the midwest United States in the late 1800's and early 1900's.
White's presentation will delve into the experience of the orphans and how they felt.
"She does kind of act out some things," said library marketing director Morgan Karel. "She's very energetic and it's just a beautiful story."
There will be light refreshments served and the Hastings Chamber of Commerce will present the library a plague that day as well to commemorate the anniversary.
Karel says they are very proud of the milestone, and they know it couldn't have been sustained without widespread support.
"It just takes the community," said Karel. "Really a lot of the community support. Everybody coming in, using the library, knowing that it's a place to learn and is a place for everybody."
The anniversary celebration is from 3:30 to 6:00 p.m. December 6. More information can be found
