Chilly weekend leads to a warmer week

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - The sunshine is back for Friday as clouds depart Eastern Nebraska Friday morning. There may still be a few clouds left in Northern Nebraska. It will remain quite chilly and blustery with high temperatures a good 20+ degrees below average. Highs will range from the mid to upper 30s in Northern Nebraska to the upper 40s near the Nebraska/Kansas border. Winds will be strong out of the west northwest at 15 to 25 mph and gusts up to 35 mph.

The weekend will be nicer, but will still have to deal with below freezing low temperatures both Saturday and Sunday morning. Lows will drop back into the mid 20s to lower 30s around the area. Both Saturday and Sunday will be sunny, but only Saturday will still be breezy. Look for highs on Saturday ranging from near 50° up north to the mid 60s in the south. Sunday may just be a little bit warmer with highs from the lower 50s north to the upper 60s southwest.

Monday will be partly to mostly sunny and warmer with high temperatures reaching the 60s and lower 70s with the warmest temperatures southwest. A cold front will move through Monday night and Tuesday morning. No precipitation is expected, but it will be breezy and cooler for Tuesday. Highs will mostly be in the 50s on Tuesday.

After a night Tuesday night that could dip to near or below freezing, another warming trend is coming. Highs on Wednesday will range from the upper 50s east to the lower 70s west. It may be a little breezy again. Thursday is shaping up to be fantastic with highs mainly in the 70s.

The weekend does get better for the area. First off, there will be a lot of sunshine. Winds will still be somewhat breezy on Saturday. Highs will range from the upper 40s north to the lower 60s south. Similar to slightly warmer temperatures are expected on Sunday.

Monday may be the nicest day of the forecast. Highs will range from the upper 50s north to the lower 70s southwest. Skies will be mostly sunny. Cooler temperatures return behind a cold front for Tuesday and Wednesday. No precipitation is expected with the front, just a few clouds. Temperatures on Tuesday will be from the upper 40s north to near 60° south. Wednesday will be a little warmer with highs ranging from the mid 50s east to the mid 60s west.
