Police ID man arrested after standoff in Columbus

COLUMBUS, Neb. – Columbus Police have identified a man who was arrested after a lengthy standoff on Monday.

Justin Dittmer, 35, was arrested after the standoff that started around 12:45 p.m. on Monday and ended after 6 p.m.

According to police, the incident began when the Columbus Police Department attempted to stop a white sedan, which police believe was stolen from Fremont.

Dittmer didn't stop and a pursuit ensued until his vehicle crashed in the area of 3rd Avenue and Air Vista Drive in Columbus.

Police said Dittmer then fled from the vehicle and is believed to have broken into a home in the 2800 block of 3rd Avenue. Police were working under the assumption that he was armed and dangerous and asked people to stay away from the area and remain in their homes.

Authorities said Dittmer was taken into custody at the home on the 2800 block of 3rd Avenue at about 6:20 p.m.

Dittmer was arrested and lodged on charges of Possession of stolen property, driving during revocation, fleeing in a motor vehicle to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, first-degree trespassing, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
