Dog bone hunt to give dogs taste of Easter fun

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) Who says an Easter egg hunt is for kids only? The City of Hastings Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a "Dog Bone Hunt" Saturday morning at the Hastings dog park.

Instead of candy eggs, dogs will be hunting for dog bones. The event is also sponsored by Heartland Pet Connection and Start Over Rover.

Jennie Theesen from Heartland Pet Connection thinks the event sounds like fun, and is a good way to let others know about the dog park.

"The City of Hastings came up with the concept and approached us and we thought it was a great idea," said Theesen. "A great way to get people out and just to know that it's there. (It's) a great place just to exercise your dog and get out."

There are two divisions. Dogs weighing under 30 pounds will go from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. That will be followed by dogs over 30 pounds from 11:15 to 11:45.

The Easter Bunny will also be there and available for pictures.

Theesen said they are also looking forward to Give Hastings Day, which is May 9. Any funds donated that day will go toward the ongoing replacement of their kitten condos, and a power washer system for their dog kennel area.
