Driver facing charges in deadly interstate crash

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) -- Omaha Police say Nemias Garcia-Velasco, 32, the driver of a van involved in a deadly crash on Wednesday is out of the hospital and facing charges.

Garcia-Velasco is accused of Motor Vehicle Homicide, DUI, Reckless Driving and No Operators License.

Investigators say he was driving the van that crashed at I-80 and I-680 around 1 p.m. Wednesday and burst into flames.

Silvano Torres, 58, was riding in the cargo area of the van and died in the crash.

Front seat passenger, Jesus Gonzalez, 16, was treated and released from the hospital on the day of the wreck.

Police say the driver was speeding when the van left the road, hit and then vaulted over a metal guardrail, struck a concrete bridge support, rolled over and caught fire.
