Enjoy an evening out with princesses at the Hastings Mom Prom

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Ladies, clear your Friday night. It's time to put on a fancy outfit for the 2nd annual Hastings Mom Prom.

The Hastings Mom Prom is an event that started when a group of women talked about needing a ladies night out.

This fun event is a chance for women to get together, dress up and go out dancing with friends.

This year's theme is Disney princesses. Moms and their friends can wear their old prom dresses, bridesmaid gowns, or even thrift store finds to this "prom-style" dance.

"Everyone needs a reason to where a poofy dress," said Julie Mullen, one of the organizers.

The event is the brain child of a group of women who work out at Central Community College.

Lauren Slaughter would see pictures on Facebook of teens all dressed up going to prom and would always remember that she didn't go.

"We needed an event to wear gowns," she said.

The group did a Google search for Mom Prom and learned that this was something that takes place around the country.

The idea of a Mom's Night Out turned into reality with the first Hastings Mom Prom in June of 2018. The theme: 80's.

It was so successful that the ladies decided to do it again this year.

It will be held at the C3 Hotel and Convention Center in Hastings on Friday, May 17. It runs from 7:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.

This event not only gets you out of the house to enjoy the evening but also supports a good cause.

Mentoring Works, formerly Big Brothers Big Sisters of Hastings, will receive about 80 percent of the ticket sales and all the proceeds from the silent auction.

Slaughter said they try to pick organizations that deal with children. She said someone who attended last year's event reached out to them.

So if you're not sold yet, there will be a DJ, drinks, photo booth and raffle/silent auction.

It's only $25 for a ticket which can be purchased online or at the door.

Be sure to dress up and leave your boyfriends or husbands behind.
