Family caregivers have special event geared to help
Anyone who provides in-home care for a family member or friend needs to know they are not in it alone. That's the message of a special Day of Caring for Those Who Care to be held in Hastings all day Thursday. The day of caring will be held at the Hastings City Auditorium.
The event begins with doors opening at 8:00 a.m. The program begins at 9:00 a.m. Events will continue through 3:00 p.m., including a buffet lunch. In addition to guest speakers, there will be 38 agencies on hand with displays on ways they can help the caregivers.
All that, and the opportunity to sit in a massage chair as well. One of the event organizers, Jinxy Hackler of Hastings Respite Care, says the idea is to give caregivers a little time off.
"They need a little break," said Hackler. "And they need some support and some other agencies in the community that can help them continuing doing the job they are doing for their family."
At 11:00 a.m., author Amy Goyer will provide the keynote speech.
Pre-registration is encouraged and can be done by calling Hackler at (402) 463-8124. People can come and go as available for them throughout the day.
