Hastings Fire responded to an early morning fire at J Street Storage.

They received the call just before 5:30 a.m. Friday. When fire crews arrived, they found flames and smoke inside an RV camper parked in the lot.

They were able to quickly put out the fire.

Fire Chief Kent Gilbert said passerbyers were the ones that called in the fire as smoke was billowing across Highway 6. He said if nobody called it in, it would have been a lot worse.

Gilbert said there was moderate smoke and fire damage. He estimates the fire caused $20,000 in damages.

Gilbert said there was nobody inside the camper when they arrived.

The State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause.
