UDPATE: Wood River nursing home evacuated, residents moved to Hastings

The Hall County emergency management office reported that residents were evacuated Friday from the Good Samaritan nursing home in Wood River. They were being moved to the Perkins Good Samaritan village in Hastings.

Hwy 2 from Independence Road to Cairo is Closed due to water along with Airport Road from Engleman Road West. Detour is Husker Hwy to Hwy 11 to Cairo. Please do not bypass barricades – St. Patrol is giving tickets. IF live in Hall County and need sandbags or to report water/road issue, call County Roads Dept. 308-385-5126. There are also local vendors that sell sandbags also.

Airport Road from Monitor Rd to North Road is still under water.

Wood River: ***Hwy 30 IS OPEN from Grand Island to Wood River. Closed from Wood River to Kearney.***
Wood River will accept volunteers to assist with downtown sandbagging operations. Travel to Wood River via Hwy 30, park down town south side (Main St., 9th St). and report to City Hall Building, Nelson Winkle, to sign in. Wood River has a volunteer evacuation in place, the Wood River High School is current shelter place. Angela Williams of Central NE Humane Society advised will take pets, if needed, while residents are in shelter. Humane Society’s # 308-370-6565.

The Hall County Emergency Management office said Friday morning that a section of Highway 2 between Independence Road west of Grand Island and continuing to Cairo was closed due to flooding.

People needing sandbags or who had a water/road issue to report were asked to call the Hall county Highway Department at 308-385-5126

The list of highways being closed in central Nebraska due to flooding conditions continues to grow, with a nearly 40 mile stretch of Highway 30 now closed.

Authorities in Hall County continue to deal with the closure of Highway 2 between Grand Island and Cairo. Despite blockades being in placed, there have been a number of reports of people going around the barricades and attempting to drive on the highway.

Hall County officials are advising people wanting to travel from Cairo to Grand Island to continue to use Highway 11 and Husker Highway.

Attached is a list of Hall county roads which are either damaged or closed due to flooding.
