NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - The former director of the Lincoln County Housing Authority was sentenced Monday to theft to deception. Court documents show Jennifer Smith pled no contest and gave a $20,000 check to the court as part of a plea bargain. Prosecutors dropped other charges.

Lincoln County District Court Judge, Michael Piccolo, sentenced her to three years probation and a total of 24 days in jail. She will go to jail two days at a time every 90 days.

The case started in 2018 when law enforcement were alerted to suspicious activity in her checking account. Smith's attorney says Smith was victim of Jamaican money scammers and moved money from bank to bank.
