GI city administrator to retire

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) Grand Island city councilman Roger Steele was elected mayor Tuesday and he's already got one big job on his plate.

City Administrator Marlan Ferguson announced Wednesday that he plans to retire sometime in 2019, even though Mayor-elect Steele asked him to stay on.

Ferguson indicated, with the City Administrator form of Government, the City Administrator position runs with the term of the Mayor and he feels it would be more appropriate to allow a new person to be in that position for the four years if possible. Ferguson indicated a willingness to stay on in some capacity to assist in a seamless transition.

The City of Grand Island is advertising for the City Administrator’s position. The position as advertised is open until filled, so finalist for the position could be announced as potential candidates are chosen.
