GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - There is now at least one candidate running to be the next mayor of Grand Island.

City councilman Roger Steele filed to run for the office Friday.

Steele is one of the two representatives of City Council Ward 2 which covers the southwest part of the city.

Steele graduated from Wayne State College and got his law degree at Creighton University. He's been practicing law in Grand Island since 1984 and has served on the Grand Island council since 2014.

Incumbent mayor Jeremy Jensen announced last year that he would not be running for re-election. The filing deadlines for other mayoral candidates are February 15 for incumbents and March 1 for non-incumbents.
