GIPS Foundation raises $94k for their "Add it Up to Opportunity" Campaign

It's time to "Add it Up to Opportunity"

The Grand Island Public Schools Foundation is happy to announce they raised $94,000 for their "Add it UP to Opportunity" Fundraiser.

They had almost 1,400 staff members participating, the theme this year, #WhyIGive.

"The reason I give is because this education system has given so much to me, professionally and personally and it's my chance to give back," said Katie Ramsey, Foundation Donor.

"The reason why I give is because I was involved with Grand Island Public schools for over 32 years, both of our kids went to school here and had a great experience. This was a dream of mine to make a statement to the school system that we are here for the kids," said Kirk Ramsey, Foundation Donor.

The Ramsey's kicked off the campaign with a $5,000 donation and challenge. More than 500 staff members met the challenge.

"It's just amazing that our teachers and staff give, they give the mission. They give the mission and they also live it. They dig deep every time and we are to do so much, so many wonderful things that we wouldn't be able to do," said Traci Skalberg, Executive Director, G.I.P.S. Foundation.

The "#WhyIGive" school staff campaign uses 100% of the donations for scholarships, classroom mini-grants and a variety of in-school programs. One of those programs, the Color Guard Team performed for the big announcement.

"It gives us opportunities to connect with other people, meet new people, I met so many people and I have special bonds, it gives us people we can talk to and people we can trust," said Shaylynn Sauder, 8th Grade.

When it came to staff member donations, 92% gave to the campaign, 100% of board members gave.

In its 15th year, the G.I.P.S. Foundation has raised more than $11 Million dollars for their "WhyIGive" Campaign.
