Governor Ricketts and area senators meet for legislative forum
Talking successes and legislative bills were the main focus of a forum Wednesday morning in Grand Island.
Governor Pete Ricketts along with four area state senators met with grand island community leaders for the Legislative Kick-Off event put on by the Grand Island Area Chamber of Commerce.
The governor and senators addressed legislative bills coming in the 2020 session, one of the main focuses being property taxes and tax relief.
Ricketts said when it comes to tax relief- controling spending is a key compoment.
"That is the only sustainable way to delivery tax relief. There's no silver bullet. It's kind of like profit in your businesses. If you keep your expenses flat and your revenues grow then you have profit. That's how we delivery tax relief in government," said Ricketts.
Senators also field questions from the audience included the current medical marijuana bill with Govenor Ricketts strongly opposed , current road projects and concerns of attendance in schools.
