Grand Island teen cited for DUI following overnight crash

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - A Grand Island teen was cited for DUI following a one-vehicle accident overnight.

It happened before 2 a.m. Monday.

Witnesses tell Grand Island Police a vehicle was traveling fast southbound on south Walnut. The vehicle was heading onto south Locust when the driver lost control and struck a light pole.

GIPD Sergeant Phouk Manivong said when officers stumbled upon the accident, the driver was being pulled out by some of his friends.

Sgt. Manivong said the 18-year-old was injured and transported to CHI Health St. Francis.

He was cited for first offense DUI and was released at the hospital.

Police said the vehicle was totaled and the light pole will likely need to be replaced.
