Harvard musical to take audience to Oz

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) Lions and tigers and bears. Oh my! All that and more will hit the stage at Harvard High School this weekend with their production of the musical "The Wizard of Oz".

Director Blake Thompson says this is the ninth year for them producing a musical.

"We try to pick stuff the crowd can relate to and that fits our students we have at the time," Thompson said.

Playing the part of the Scarecrow will be Ryan Harms. He says their production will sound familiar to fans of the Oz movie.

"For the most part, it's the same songs (as the movie), with a little twist," said Harms. "They've added stuff because it's the play production."

The students have been working on the production since auditions in December. Cast member Paisley Longoria - who plays the Wicked Witch - says the crew likes the roles they are playing.

"It's really fun," said Longoria, "and great that I have this role and I can act mean."

Complete with "munchkins" from the grade school, the cast has over 60 students involved.

There will be two performances, Saturday at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Harvard High School auditorium. Admission is free, but good will donations will be accepted.
