Hastings College hires offensive coordinator
Hastings College football has a new man in charge of its offense. John Grinde takes over for long-time offensive coordinator, Clint Head. Grinde played wide receiver at the University of Central Missouri before starting his coaching career.
"As a coach when I started branching out to different positions. Coaching running backs and tight ends, you learn about more of the run game and now you have to see more of the core of the defense and the whole picture," Grinde said.
The last four years Grinde was the offensive line coach at the University of North Carolina- Pembroke. That coupled with his experience coaching tight ends and running backs is what led Head Coach Tony Harper and his staff to pull the trigger.
"His experience from wide receiver then moving to coaching tight ends and running backs and tackles, at the end of the day the full offensive line at [University of North Carolina- Pembroke]. He just brought a lot of experience a lot of credentials," Harper said.
Coming to Hastings, Grinde said he wants three things from his offense.
"We want to be fast, physical and elite and that's what I told the players already. Those are just three simple things. We want to play fast. We want to get the fast guys the ball. We want to be physical up front and across the board and we want to be elite," Grinde said. "It's not going to be craziness. It's going to look kind of funky but the kids will be able to learn it quickly and play fast. Then we will be able to get the ball to our play makers."
It has been six years since the Broncos had a winning record. Now, Coach Harper and his staff have a new face to help them change that.
