Hastings College inducted three alumni into the Hall of Fame Sunday at a special celebration at the Jackson Dinsdale Art Center.

Ruth Moore was one of them. She graduated from Hastings College, and worked there for many years as a professor of music.

"I didn't even know they were doing this, so I was very surprised and I'm honored by it," Ruth Moore said. "It's always been something I've enjoyed doing, since I was little. I learned to play the piano, and I've always loved it and just continued on. You're never done with something like that."

Moore is retired from working at Hastings College, but continues to freelance as a piano accompanist.

The other inductees include Michael Tushaus, a '98 graduate, and Gary Staab, an '89 graduate.

Tushaus has worked both behind the scenes and onstage in multiple theatrical productions. He's received dozens of film festival awards and nominations, and has won five Emmys.

Staab is a freelance sculptor at Staab Studios in Missouri. He combines biology in his art to create life-like natural history and prehistoric life models. Some of his work can be found at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History and the Smithsonian Institute, to name a few.

A committee of Hastings College faculty selected the three inductees from a list of alumni as a way to honor and recognize them for their accomplishments.

"We have a history of having alumni coming from this little school and going out into the world and doing really, really big things. So it's a nice way for us to honor our fine arts alumni in the same way that folks are honored on the athletic side of things," said Louis Eckhartt, professor of music and chair of the Department of Music and Theater at Hastings College.

Eckhartt said they want to include more alumni in the nomination process in the future.

He said this'll be an annual event during Homecoming weekend every year from now on.
