People are getting excited for the state fair. One long standing tradition of decorating hay bales begins this week.

Local businesses have their bales outside all dressed up for judging. This year's theme is Harvest of Memories.

Some have chosen to use their bales to reflect the history of the fair, of Grand Island, or their own.

“I think they hay bale competition is a good competition for Grand Island,” Great Western Bank Trainee Andrea Floth said. “It's good publicity for the State Fair. It is also really good publicity for the bank. It just kind of shows grand island coming together as a community.”

The judging of the competition will begin Saturday on Facebook and continue until Monday.
