This marks the first season as CEO at Fonner Park for Chris Kotoulak, but he has been around the track long enough to know that the February starting date is a tradition.

"We're all set to go," said Kotoulak. "We hope race fans can shake off that cabin fever and hopefully get spring fever here."

Trainers like Troy Bethke from Minnesota use Fonner Park as a "first track" of the season to get their horses back in racing condition.

For the fans, Kotoulak said they have added more entertainment and food specials, including "Nebraska's Most Ridiculous Happy Happy every Friday from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. That's when fans can get a mini pizza, two beers and a $5.00 betting voucher for $10.

Sunday, March 29 will be the return of the very popular Dinsdale Dashers camel and ostrich races. Kotoulak says that day will have other special fan features as well.

Post time is 2:00 p.m. on Friday, 1:30 p.m. Satuday and Sunday through March 13, when the Friday start time will change to 3:00 p.m. Racing continue until May 2.
