GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - Highway 2 from Grand Island to Cairo is closed due to flooding over parts of the road.
On Friday morning barricades were put in place on Highway 2 outside Grand Island at the Independence and Highway 2 intersection, as water is flooding the road at Engleman and Highway 2.
Some drivers were still taking their chances going around the barricades, causing a number of vehicles to get stuck in the water.
Officials are urging drivers to not go around the barricades, as it can be dangerous.
Jon Rosenlund, with the Hall Co. Emergency Management said, "I always see people driving through flood waters and it's never a good idea. You really need to ensure that you can tell if the road or the bridge is really solid underneath that water, but it doesn't take a ton of water to move your car down the river."
Rosenlund said the stretch of highway will stay closed until the water recedes. And is advising motorists to use Husker Highway to Highway 11 if needing to go westbound in that direction.
