GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - I-80 westbound from central Nebraska to Wyoming has been closed down for several hours now.
Leaving hundreds of truck drivers stranded at the Bosselman Travel Center in Grand Island.
Many of the drivers have been stuck there for over 24 hours now.
The truckers get paid by the mile, and the only time they get paid when they aren't driving is if they have a breakdown. Because this doesn’t classify as a breakdown, the truckers have to wait around until the coast is clear and are making no money in the process.
"We've been here since about six o'clock last night, and as of right now, we can't go anywhere until they open the roads,” Bill Griffin said. “Until they reopen them we can't get paid. Sitting here with no pay for the next 24 to 48 hours, or longer.
Griffin also said that because the shipment will be late the load may not be accepted for a couple days. Meaning they will have to sit and wait, once again losing money.
There is currently no update on when I-80 westbound will open back up.
