Jerry Spady collects pet supplies for local animal shelters

HASTINGS, Neb. - (KSNB) It costs thousands of dollars a month to keep our local animal shelters up and running. One car dealership in Hastings is looking to help lighten the load.

In honor of National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week, Jerry Spady in Hastings is collecting pet food and supplies. All the donations will go to Start Over Rover and the Heartland Pet Connection.

"We have a lot of animals in shelters that need homes, and when they're in the care of the shelters they are in need of supplies that the shelters can't necessarily afford on their own. They count on donations from the community to help keep going," said Diane Dube, business development manager at Jerry Spady.

So far they've gotten cat and dog food, treats and toys. Jerry Spady is also taking cleaning supplies, like paper towels and laundry detergent, as well as blankets.

For every person that goes for a test drive, the car dealership will also donate one bag of food.

They'll be taking all the donations to the shelters on Monday, and will take items up until noon that day. You can bring any pet food or supplies to the Hastings location during their normal business hours.
