Job fair looks for summer parks employees

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) Before the Hastings Aquacourt and Smith Softball Complex can go from winter landscapes to summertime hot spot, staff will need to be hired.

For that reason, the Hastings Parks and Recreation Department will be holding a job fair Saturday afternoon at the City Auditorium.

"This is going to be an opportunity for the people to come and kind of learn about the seasonal jobs that we have to offer," said Ryan Martin of the parks and rec department. "(They can) fill out an application and maybe even do a quick interview for a job that they want to do this summer."

Martin says there is a wide variety of options for people looking for work.

"At the water park, we have facility attendant jobs. Concessions, admissions, as well as lifeguards," said Martin. "Lifeguard is our biggest position. It's our highest paid position at the water park so we're definitely looking for that. At the softball complex, we hire for gatekeepers and scorekeepers, as well as maintenance field preparation staff".

Martin says the operation of these facilities is totally dependent on their seasonal help. Plus, he says, the jobs can be fun.

"If you're wanting to get outside and get paid to do it, this would be a job for you. You can kind of enjoy being outside and being around sports and the softball complex. Or even around the water at the water park and kind of enjoy that, and earn a paycheck too."

Applicants need to be 15 years old and older...The job fair runs from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Saturday at the Hastings City Auditorium...
