KPD participated in the "You Drink, You Drive, You Lose" campaign, sponsored by the Nebraska Department of Highway Safety.

The campaign ran December 13 through January 1. During that time, KPD arrested seven people for driving under the influence and gave two minors citations for having alcohol on them.

"It's not okay to drive under the influence any time of the year, and we do have officers working these violations year round. Every single day of the year, at all times of the day. This is just more of a targeted effort," said Capt. Mike Young, Kearney Police Department.

Police also wrote two speeding citations and arrested five fugitives during that time.

A grant from the Nebraska Department of Highway Safety allowed five officers to work 35 additional hours during the campaign to look for those alcohol violations.
