Kearney Public Schools will be closed this week due to the corona virus, and will remain closed during the scheduled spring break next week.

Canceling school for kids, but also for their employees.

Monday night the school board held an emergency meeting to approve the compensation for hourly and/or non-exempt employees.

The board wanted to move swiftly to ensure their employees that they will be well taken care of, and to make sure they know how important they are to the district.

"I mean I think our board is taking a very quick and bold action in meeting tonight. Just to give the assurance to those employees number one," said Kearney Public Schools Superintendent. "They have needs like all of us, and just to give them a comfortable level that they will provide for their families. But also I think our board is taking a direct step to promote just the value that those employees bring to our school system."
