KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) - Kearney residents will have a chance to spay and neuter their cats for a greatly reduced rate this weekend. The Kearney Area Animal Shelter has eight veterinarians volunteering their time to serve 200 cats on Sunday.

Hundreds of cats come through the shelter each year and can be a nuisance to the community. The shelter wants to do it now before kitten season returns to help try and keep strays off the streets and out of the shelter.
“A lot of these are kittens that are coming from stray mommas and when they come in almost all of them have ear mites, worms, fleas,” Assistant Director Carla Wilde said.
The event will be at the Buffalo County Fairgrounds Extension Building. Registration will begin at 8:30am. The surgery will cost $20 and is only available to Kearney residents for this time around. It is limited to two cats per person and four cats per family. Service will be on a first come, first serve basis.
