Local shop preps for Valentine's Day rush

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - Love is in the air this week, and a local flower shop is making sure it stays there this Valentine's Day.

People at Roses for You in Grand Island are working long hours this week to prepare for the big day.

They've taken the week to complete their pre-orders and prepare extra arrangements for any last minute shoppers.

Andy Znamenacek, co-owner of Roses for You, said they can get anywhere from ten to 20 times more business than usual on Valentine's Day.

"Pretty much it starts at the end of the previous year where we get our calculations, and get all our flowers pre-ordered and get them reserved from the farms," Znamenacek said. "Then we go back and forth, because our building can only hold so many."

Znamenacek said they've been at their location in GI for about ten years now.

You can find all kinds of flowers, teddy bears and even singing balloons inside.

He said they've gotten use to the grind of the Valentine's Day rush, and have come to actually enjoy the chaos.

"Some of our holiday help, we get to see them a few times a year. So it's a great time. We all enjoy each other's company. We all work well together. So it's a fun time for us," Znamenacek said.

Roses for You has extended hours for Wednesday and Thursday.

Most of the staff will be there late in the evening Wednesday, and early Thursday to finish filling orders.

If you still need to buy your Valentine a gift, Roses for You is still taking orders.
