WACO, Neb. (KSNB) A man accused of firing a gunshot at the Waco city park while children were playing faces six felony charges.
Schuyler Tomes, 30, Waco, is charged with four counts of felony Terroristic Threats, one count of Use of a Firearm to Commit a Felony and one count of Driving Under 15-year revocation of his driver's license.
Court records show four children reported the incident to a York County Sheriff's deputy August 15. The children told authorities the man drove by them three or four times in the park, came back and pointed the gun at them. They said the man then shot into the air and drove off. A 9 mm casing was found on the ground in the area.
Sheriff Paul Vrbka said they were able to get a surveillance video of the suspect's vehicle from a near by bank. That led to several tips and ultimately the arrest. Deputies also recovered the 9 mm handgun used in the incident.
Tomes is currently free on bond and has an evidence hearing scheduled in York County Court October 16. The max penalties for convictions on all six crimes total 64 years in prison.
