Mayor-elect Roger Steele prepares to be sworn into office

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - There's a new mayor coming to town, and he says he's ready to "hit the ground running."

Mayor-elect Roger Steele will be sworn in as mayor of Grand Island Tuesday at a City Council meeting.

He said he is excited to sit through his first City Council meeting as mayor.

"I just think we want to keep on a steady pace," Steele said. My plan at this time is that we have a smooth and seamless transition. I said earlier that we do not have time for down time."

Steele said he realized he wanted to run for Mayor of Grand Island after sitting on the City Council.

He said he's glad things paid off after nine months of campaigning, but he knows he has some big shoes to fill.

"Jeremy Jensen stepped into the city and brought calm and order to the city of Grand Island. He has represented Grand Island admirably. So to follow in his footsteps is a great honor," Steele said.

He said he's excited to work along side the new, and current city administration.

He said he plans to continue where Jensen's administration left off, and is excited to keep improving the city of Grand Island.
