Merna man pronounced dead at scene Wednesday, gunshot wound

BROWN COUNTY, Neb. (KNOP) - Logan Maring, 18, of Merna died Wednesday, May 22, 2019, from a gunshot wound at 88503 U.S. Highway 183, 11 miles north of Long Pine.

27-year old Nathan Yankowski of rural Long Pine was arrested at the scene where Maring was pronounced dead. Brown County Sheriff Bruce Papstein says the call came in at 4:56 p.m. on Wednesday. He says Yankkowski has been charged with second degree assault and involuntary manslaughter relating to Maring's death.

Arraignment is pending in Brown County Court. Brown County Ambulance Association and the Nebraska State Patrol assisted the Brown County Sheriff's Department in the investigation.
