NP teen wins state National Anthem contest

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - North Platte's Rachel Young will get to sing the National Anthem at the opening ceremonies at the Cornhusker State Games. The 15-year-old received more votes than her three competitors in a Facebook voting contest.

Opening Ceremonies are Friday, July 19 at Seacrest Field in Lincoln.

A North Platte teenager is a Finalist in the Cornhusker State Games National Anthem Contest. Fifteen-year-old Rachel Young will compete against three others in the online Facebook voting.

Each finalist's audition video is posted on the Cornhusker State Games Opening Ceremonies Facebook page. Finalists include Rachel Young, 15, North Platte; Annie Rinke, 45, Lincoln; Addison Earnest, 16, Malcolm; and Nathan Schreiter, 25, Lincoln.

Voting will be open from May 3-19, and the winner will be announced on May 20. Whichever contestant collects the most votes will earn the honor of singing the national anthem at the Opening Ceremonies on Friday, July 19.
