September 2 is the day Nebraskans across the state have been waiting months for. It's the Husker home opener at Memorial Stadium.

To celebrate the new season, the "Nebraska by Heart" project plans to unveil three brand new Husker art sculptures.

“We are so excited about these three hearts,” said Liz Shea-McCoy, Director of Nebraska by Heart. “They represent Husker tradition, our pride, and the great feeling we have for the Cornhusker football team.”

In July, "Nebraska by Heart" held a contest on Facebook to pick one design for a Husker heart.

Artists submitted their designs. It was such a difficult choice, organizers picked three winning designs.

“The emotional feeling we already know that we feel about the Huskers is quite evident on these three hearts.”

The sculptures will be unveiled Friday, September 1st at 2:00 p.m. on the East side of Memorial Stadium. They will stay there until October.

“When thousands and thousands of people see these hearts, they're going to be awestruck by the feeling of pride that these Nebraska artists created.”

On October 6th, all of the hearts will be auctioned off at Haymarket Park. Proceeds from the auction will be split between the artists, and two local non-profit organizations: Lead Up and Sadie Dog Fund.

The project now has a total of 89 heart sculptures that are featured on both of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's campuses, in the Haymarket, near Centennial Mall and by the Nebraska State Capitol.
