Northwest School Board recall petition falls short for needed signatures

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - The Grand Island woman looking to recall two members of the Northwest School Board has not received the necessary signatures to continue the process.

According to Hall County Election Commissioner Tracy Overstreet, Abby Thomas needed 352 signatures on her petition by January 15th. Overstreet says instead she called saying she hadn't reached the number and wouldn't turn any paperwork in.

The petition asked that Northwest school board members Dan Leiser and Robin Schutt be removed from the board. At the time Thomas filed the recall petition in November, she alleged there had been a "gross mismanagement of district", "a lack of concern to protect [the] district tax base" and "blatant disregard for taxpayer concerns".

In a statement to Local4 News, Dan Leiser said "I am glad that the NW patrons could see through these false allegations brought against myself and the NW Board. The entire Board has the best intentions in mind for the whole district."

Robin Schutt also telling Local4 News that she was "happy this nonsensical recall issue has failed". In a statement, Schutt said "it generated a lot of unnecessary hype and in the end had no results. It's time to move onward and upward."
